Ragi Appam | Finger Millet Appam | Valentine's Day Special


 Ragi or Finger Millet  a wonderful ingredient to cure and avoid Diabetes.Suits all age people and having more proteins to build up body strength.Having more proteins best for breakfast and dinner.Regulates and control Metabolic rate and control Body weight.Here comes the treat using ragi or finger millet.Mostly appam is made using maida or all purpose flour, banana and sugar or jaggery.Best evening tea snack or either for breakfast.

The recipe contains finger millet flour , banana , sugar and cardamom powder with little milk.Make dough and from dough make shapes and then fry them in unflavored oil or ghee.when frying with ghee it gives excellent aroma and makes the snack more richy.But if you are more health conscious you can use oil for frying.Using banana should be riped  and firm.not so ripen.
Give the healthy appam as a treat to your partner as a valentine treat.Having more desserts along with some starters this week.Will try to post Main dishes:)

Lets start cooking this healthy appam....

Preparation time:20 minutes
Cooking time:10 minutes
Serves:3




Ingredients Needed:
  1. Ragi flour - 200 gm
  2. Sugar - 6 tbsp
  3. Banana -1 large size
  4. Cardamom powder - 1 pinch
  5. Milk - 5 tbsp
  6. Oil or ghee for frying

 
 

 Method:

  • Take ragi flour and sieve them in a bowl.Cut riped banana into fine pieces.
  •  Mash the banana and mix with flour and crumble them and mix well.
  • Pinch of cardamom powder is added and mix well.
  • Add powdered sugar and mix and make dough with 5 tbsp of milk.
  • If you feel the dough is tight,add another few drops of milk.
  • The dough is ready now.Using rolling pin and flat them using rolling pin.
  • Make shapes or simply make round shapes and deep fry them in ghee or oil.
  • I made little loose dough so i didnt made any shapes.The dough is too much stiff so add more tbsp milk to the dough and make appam
  • Or make instantly when you prepare the dough.as it contains more fibres it aborbs more liquid.So make appams immediately.
 



 Tips:
  • Use jaggery instead of sugar.It makes more healthy and more sweet.
  • Added only 5 tbsp of sugar because the banana i used is more sweet.
  • Pistachios and almond paste makes more healthier and yummy treat for kids.
  • Fry in either ghee or oil.Being health conscious i  used oil for frying.
