Plantain Stem Raita | Vazhaithandu Raita | Yummy Summer Special

Hi Friends!

Last month was a full sweet and dessert month. So from this month i am being with starters and dips and yummy puloas.Wait for the spicy treat and in between some desserts are there.I am concentrating on healthy treats so that it will be useful for all of us.For example for weight loss, beauty recipes etc.

The recipe am going to share is a "NO COOKING RECIPE".Which does not need more time.Plantain Stem is more popular in South India. We make Sambhar,Kootu or curry from plantain stem.Very useful veggie but this is not a veggie.Curing kidney stones, increases metabolic rate and urinary problems.

The raita i learnt from my Aunt who told me that plantain stem tastes so good with yoghurt and green chillies. That made me to make this raita.Yesterday i made this for me but in home they don't want this because this is not cooked. But once you take with sambhar rice,Biryani or any other spicy treat this would be more helpful to balance the heat.

Lets Start Cooking......

 Ingredients Needed:
  1. Plantain stem  - 100 gm
  2. Yoghurt - 4 tbsp  + 1 tbsp
  3. Salt - as required
  4. Hing/asfoetida - a pinch
  5. Water -for soaking

For temper:
  1. Mustard seeds
  2. Black gram
  3. Green chilli - 1 finely chopped
Oil - 1tbsp

 Method:

  • Mix  1 tbsp yoghurt in water and add chopped stem.Chop very thin and it would like thin french fries.
  • Wash it and kept aside.Take a bowl and add the chopped stem.
  • Mix 3 tbsp of yoghurt and required salt and mix well.Add hing to it and mix well.

  • Heat oil in the pan and add mustard seeds and black gram along with green chillies.
  • Add it to the raita and mix well.
  • Cover the bowl and kept in refrigerator.Unless it will release water when kept outside as it contains more water content.
  • Crunchy mild raita is ready to serve.

 Tips:
  • Chopping thin slices is more important.Remove the fibre and chop finely.
  • First make thin round slices and then remove fiber and chop finely.
  • Add pomegranate seeds . It looks more beautiful and more crunchy.
  • Serve this with spicy treat.

Plantain Stem Raita/Vazhaithandu Raita Is Ready To Serve!!!!!

Have A Nice Day!!!!!!

Regards,
Ramya
